JOHN RATTRAY

OWNER / PRINCIPAL

John Rattray has worked in the interior design industry since 2008. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wayne State University, as well as a certification in architectural CAD applications.

Shortly after college, John began working with antique dealers in Birmingham, Michigan; attending several buying trips to England and assisting in sales and the display of merchandise for the store and clients’ homes. During this time, his love of fine furniture and the decorative arts blossomed. His time in England greatly influenced his personal aesthetic and helped to guide and refine his design philosophy.

In 2010, John joined Serba Interiors working on installations both locally and across the country. As a design assistant, he coordinated many projects and worked on all aspects of the design process.

As an interior designer John approaches each project with a direct focus on both beauty and utility; working closely with his clients to achieve stylish interiors that are functional and unique. With a keen attention to detail, he strives to elevate even the smallest elements of the interiors he creates; often designing custom cabinetry, bespoke furniture pieces and commissioning original artwork for his clients’ homes.

John considers his style to be classic, elegant and historically informed – drawing from the surrounding architectural dialogue for inspiration and direction on each unique project. Tending toward an updated traditional aesthetic, he focuses on reissuing enduring styles rather than succumbing to trends.

Having an attentive eye for design, John regularly turns to his personal interests for artistic inspiration. Gardening, theater, architecture and music are all contributors to his broader design aesthetic.
